Last Friday “Chill” opened at the Village at Queen Mary in Long Beach.  The event runs from November 22 to Jan 5.  Last Thursday they held a special media only event to give a sneak-peak of what the event was all about.  Golden State Haunts and Events was on hand to check it out.

After an ice-skating demonstration from professional skaters and speeches by the creators of the event as well as the honorary mayor of Long Beach, Santa Claus made a grand entrance by skydiving onto the skating rink.  Media was also given free food and drinks from the many vendors from 6pm until 7pm and we have to say that everything we tried was excellent.  Vendors included such places as Rudolf’s Pizza, Frosty’s Fried Treats, Sugarplums and the Jolly Grill.  We had the giant sausage with onions and peppers as well as the strawberry covered funnel cake for desert.  It was now time to check out the highlight of “Chill” which is the “Ice Kingdom”,  made out of two million pounds of ice which tells the story of “The Nutcracker”.

The “Ice Kingdom” was created by US designers and built by Chinese sculptors.  Temperatures inside are a frosty nine degrees. Also at “Chill” is the world’s largest rocking horse, a giant snow globe, ice tubing, ice skating and carolers.  The atmosphere is decorated with elaborate Christmas scenes and ornaments, including a walk-through gingerbread house and falling snow.  Night time is especially festive as the backdrop of the Queen Mary covered with lights is quite impressive to see.

We recommend everyone to check it out as the event will definitely put you in a holiday mood.
